The last aspect of a fresh design is the hanging curtains, which is probably the final touch that suits the rest of the arrangement. However, this can make or break the scheme, so it’s worth paying a little more attention.

Look at the windows

Windows, especially big windows, are a big focus for a room so make sure it stands out. Why not enable them to guide the way, rather than merge in and match the remainder of the space? Create a bold statement with the window dressing for a stylish memorable theme.

Maybe it’s the view. If so, use your curtains to ‘ frame ‘ that which is beyond the window. Add some comfortable sitting areas and you could get in a spot which is hard to pull away from.

Focus on fabric

Whether you want your curtains to have a pattern or simple fabric, make sure you choose an accent colour for cushions or teapots to tie the whole arrangement with one another. The choice of the fabric is only the beginning.

Three types of curtain

Tape top: Tape runs through the top of the curtain with strings so that the curtain can be gathered and pleats are created. Hooks pass through the tape and hang over the window into a track.

Net curtains: They provide light at the expense of disturbing the view. They are great for windows on the ground floor next to roads because the view isn’t that good anyway and you want to keep your privacy.

Eyelet top: The holes in the top of the curtain allow it to thread directly across the pole. It creates a straightforward appearance where the curtains hang in the waves instead of plates created by tape tops.

Purpose

Consider what your curtains need to do. Are they just for looking beautiful or do they have to stop people looking inside? You might need a bedroom blackout material? Must they keep out a draught?

You may be frightened to choose curtains, so your research and plans are going to have to be important.

You can choose to avoid curtains completely and instead decide to use blinds in a very modern way. Venetian blinds offer an industrial look, or roller blinds may be made of the same material as you might have selected in your curtains. It really does depend on what the final result you want is. Regardless of what you choose to do with your windows, make sure you decide and don’t look back and think you’ve made a mistake.
