This blog will go through the cleaning techniques and ways to clean your blinds properly.

Wooden Blinds

Wooden blinds are very easy to clean, provided that you are using correct techniques and products.

Dusting is one of the fastest and most efficient ways to clean the wooden blinds. Use a slat cleaner, duster or smooth dry cloth to prevent disturbance of dust on the slats. Wipe it once, and again when the slats are open and all surface dust will be removed.

You can also use a mild suction setting with a soft attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Do not use a vacuum cleaner if your slats are scuffed and scratched unless you have soft brush attachments. Clean the vertical slats from one end to the other and take care that the arrangement is not interrupted or disturbed. You could take your blinds down to do this, but if possible, leave them hung for ease.

Every sticky patch or mucky areas must be rubbed with a clean, damp cloth carefully. You can also use washing up liquid. Baby wipes are also useful for removing such marks. Do not forget to go back to absorb any residues with a dry tissue or cloth. Leave the windows open when possible, to encourage the evaporation of any residual water during and after the cleaning of your wooden blinds.

Note that excess moisture can damage wooden blinds quite badly. When saturated, the wood expands and in turn can bends and break. Stains, varnishes and finishes on the wooden layers may also fade and peel if incorrect products are used. In order to clean up your wooden blinds, you should try to prevent fluid or chemical products.

Roller Blinds

The cleaning of your roller blinds and making them look as new does not take long. When you have purchased PVC or easy to wipe roller blinds, you are fortunate–because of their water-resistant and wipe-clean properties, your blinds become even more easy to clean.

Take a clean, damp cloth and hold on to your rollers. Roll down the whole way and wipe down. Allow the blind to dry before moving it again. You should try to do this a few times a month and add it to your wider cleaning routine.

Baby wipes can clean your roller blinds as long as you rub gently so that no coating is removed.

Roman Blinds

In order to maintain your look and feel, Roman blinds require a regular, light cleaning. Because they are made of soft fabrics such as cotton and linen, it can be harder to deal with markings and stains. Dust and dirt can, however, be easily addressed. This can be done with a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner and its low setting. Open the blind fully and brush the edges of the blind from top to bottom, focusing on the edges of the blinds that collect more dust and dirt. Only the front of your Roman blinds should be vacuumed.

Don’t use the roman blind stain remover because the colour may be affected. To remove stains, you can use baby wipes. You shouldn’t try to cleanse it in any way if your blind is made of silk or false silk.

Vertical Blinds

Due to its long, downward slope louvre, vertical blinds require very little maintenance. This means that they are less likely to collect stains because there is very little space for it to settle. The majority of vertical blinds are made from flexible polyesters or similar, making them easy to wipe with a clean, damp cloth. It can be easier to unclip and remove your vertical blinds from the rail if you are looking to thoroughly clean each louvre and focus on it individually.

To keep its shape, size and colour, you should always dry your vertical blinds. Do not hang them to dry if your louvre has been thoroughly saturated during cleaning, because this will cause the water to settle on the bottom of the fabric. Instead, place each louvre on a clean, flat surface and let it dry before it is rehanged. You should also be careful of the headrail and the chain connectors because these can be dirtier and more adhesive than you know. Start by unclipping the louvre from the brackets and wiping with a moist cloth under the rail. Use the mechanism and the chains using a silicone spray. Allow these areas to dry and then retrieve your louvres. Baby wipes can also be used for that.
